Gaming Development- Is a hybrid field, drawing from the fields of computer science, mathematics, and production.
Animation for games have been excelling for many years like for example the NBA2k series, from the first NBA to the latest one of NBA2k19, back in 1999 changed from low quality, quick movements, and fast gameplay to now, HD quality, better movements (slow or quick), more modes, gameplay more realistic with better crowd fundamentals, more mechanics in the game, and etc. But we never did get all this animation for games without other developers trying for it and giving us ideas to go towards the future into development.
Starting with the game that started it all, Pong. Developed in 1972, Pong was the first game to be connected to the TV you had at home and one of the first huge games developed. The simple movement from up and down to when the paddle hit the ball it goes across the line to score a point and it was a two dimensional game at it’s time.
Another game that shook the world by storm was DOOM. This game was developed back in 1993. Doom was the first ever 3d shooter and first person game. It was a first-person shooter, DOOM is experienced through the eyes of the main character. This character is not named throughout the game. At its core, the gameplay is similar to classic shooter games, presenting the player with the challenge of surviving while shooting every enemy in sight, but with its 3D first person perspective giving environments a spatial representation that has a major effect on the level design and gameplay experience only looking left and right. The Developer, John D. Carmack, made and develop the DOOM engine but what really catches the players attention of how it’s not really 3D. It’s just different 2D with different heights and along with having the cool dark-ambient soundtrack with mainly amazing cool sound effects Doom was the millennial of its time and had everyone, even Bill Gates used it to promote the Windows 95.
Then a couple of years later in 2001, the game HALO Combat Evolved, was the first ever multiplayer based system with a sci-fi feel to it with an amazing graphics upgrade to now a more smoother looking game. Halo was developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Halo took everything to the next level for game development as the textures for the game have went up beautifully with enemies looking good with a huge challenge of making alien along with making beautiful human enemies as well, to having more movement choices as looking up,down, left, right and crouching. Halo took over the gaming scene as well as probably one of the best games of 2001.
Three games that all became big changed the world of development from just starting from a simple up down movement to almost remembering half of the controller itself to play games. If it wasn’t for all the new engines to make the enemies or concepts or getting great developers to make skins, textures, and etc. to make the game one of a kind. This is how incredible Game Development has become as we now have NBA2K19, Witcher 3, Assassins Creed Origin, WWE2K19, and Grand Theft Auto series. Many great things have come to life just because of those games. But we never did get all this animation for games without other developers trying for it and giving us ideas to go towards the future into development.
